Advice for Sewers

On this rainy morning, I'm looking to the heavens for some divine guidance, but all I can see is rainclouds (sad, no?).

Thankfully though, the beacon of hope that is Facebook (see ours here) has offered up some handy advice for all of you trusty sewers out there - from 1949.

Ummmm....

I'm off to put on my best frock.

Happy Rainy Day Sewing everyone!

Furrr-eak

Despite another random Melbourne heat wave outside, I'm actually freezing here in the office. Which is probably just as well, because Shoshana inherited some beautiful furs on the weekend, so what better time to wear it?
At our conference last week excited team leaders met with our leading faux fur supplier and we were all so excited to get our hands on some wooly wonders! Now is the purr-fect time (see what I did there?) to get working on your winter wardrobe projects so why not start by getting furry?

Tommy Ton, photographer extraordinaire at  Jak & Jil, has captured some fantastic fur moments from all over the world, including a few famous faces! Here are some of our favourite looks.

In the next few weeks we will be featuring some fun and easy fur projects to get you warm for winter. In the meantime, check out the full range in a Spotlight store near you!

No more rain

It's Monday morning in Melbourne and it's raining. Surprise! Afer an almost-40 degree weekend, today is torrential downpour. So typical. Power lines are down, everyone's running late, I forgot to wear socks...
DISASTER.

To brighten up your morning, Ryan Gosling talking about craft.
(need I say more?)

Eugh. Swoon.
From Handmade Ryan Gosling
I know this blog is old news but gosh, he makes our morning better!

Also, Madame M directed me to this absolute gem:

She's got a nose for it.
Maddie The Coonhound! Ahhhh the world's most beautiful dog, standing on things.
It's that easy.

And then, on the W&W Facebook page this morning I discovered this:

Pretty much the coolest kids ever, right? Big ups to Spotlight customer Sarah of Sarah T Handmade for dressing her kids up this weekend. Show her some Facebook love!

Monday-itis, solved.

Get Husky

You Asked for it...

Brand spankin new Polar fleece! Husky Polar is just one of our exciting new polar fleece ranges that is dropping in from Mid February.

This isn't the scratchy, squeaky polar fleece like my Dad wore in the 90s. Seriously, that stuff made my toes curl, like fingernails down a blackboard!
Husky Polar is gorgeous soft and warm anti-pill fleece. Ideal for kids outfits, cosy blankets, or dare I say it...

A snuggie?

Husky comes in a great range of 14 colours - all of which co-ordinate back with our new Printed Polar fleece ranges, and also with our exciting new winter cord ranges.
AU$4.99/m, in stores early-mid February.

What will you whip up with polar fleece this winter? Share your project ideas with us in the comments section, or leave us a post on Facebook.

Feeling Bookish

A cold snap has hit us here in Melbourne, and after a wave of a very hot past few weeks, I'm excited to be busting out my trusty cardigan in the office.
Shoshana tells me I look like I should be working in the state library...so I opened up a suitably vintage-looking book and what did I find?

Wonderful Wool Blanketing!

This gorgeous 300gsm wool/nylon blanketing will be dropping in soon. Trust me, it feels as soft and warm as it looks. In beautiful vintage-inspired checks and fantastic solids, it's a sure fire winner for your winter coats, sensible skirts and wrapping up by the fire.

Find it in store from Mid Feburary for an amazing $19.99m in 10 colours.

Feeling inspired? This fabric would be perfect for a 50's inspired coat! Try Vintage Vogue pattern #2401

 Stay warm!
